Black Wire - Yellow Stripe

Jan 19, 2004 3 Replies

There is a black wire with a yellow stripe coming out of my firewall into the engine compartment just above the water by-pass outlet ('88 4Runner -

3VZ-E). I have been doing some work on the motor and although I had the intake manifold off and was in this area, I don't remember disconnecting this fellow.

It has a tail coming out of the firewall, a connector, and then another tail that with one of those round 'washer-like' connectors on the end that you slip over a stud or bolt, as in a grounding strap.

Does anyone have a hint where this should be connected?? The wiring diagram lists a BY wire going from the ECU to the ignitor, but this little guy is no where near the ignitor and I would think that wire would go through the wiring harness anyway.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Luther

if this is a heavy gauge wire, i believe it's a ground strap and fits on top of the intake pleneum at the back.

Same here. Except mine is black with a white stripe. Heavy gauge..

Thanks for the feedback, guys. There is a stud on the back of the plenum that is looking kind of lonely - so that gels with what you are saying. Unfortunately, I was impatient and grounded it to the No. 3 camshaft bearing cap without thinking too much about it. It's rather inaccessible now - but, I'm not too worried about it.
