My son in-law's Toyota pickup had the cam chain slipper fell down inside the engine. I don't have the manual in front of me but this is the curved cam chain guide that is attached with 2 bolts on the left side of the engine (from the drivers viewpoint.) This engine was supposed to have been rebuilt before he bought the truck and I think the person working on it failed to torque this part down.
As I see it, the head will have to come off to get to this and probably the oil pan. I'm not very experienced with Toyotas but I am a former motorcycle mechanic and I know the basics. Anybody know if this can be repaired without tearing the engine down?
My son in-law is due home from Iraq in a few months and I promised that I'd have his truck back on the road before he gets home...
