clunk

When going over speed bumps at an angle or while turning on top of them, I get a mild clunk on one side or the other up front. At first I heard it when going straight over the speed bumps and thout it might be the splined portion of the drive shaft (that comes out of the manual tranny sliding in and out of the tranny. It took me a while to figure out how to get the noise repeatably. Now I am wondering whether it might be motor mounts or soemthing similar?

Any thoughts ?

Sorry, I forgot this is on a 92 4x4 XtraCab pickup with a V6.

Could be a lot of things but one thing that I'd definitely look for were it mine is worn ball joints. A failure there can ruin your whole day.
