Tacoma engine problems - where to look?

Hi. I'm reposting this in the hope that someone has an idea.....

I've got a couple of things going on with my 2.4 L Tacoma.

First of all, ever since I bought the truck two years ago, it has had trouble starting when fully warm (hot, but not overheated) on summer days. Like when I stop at the convenience store, especially if I gas up when it's hot (vapor?). I crank it a looong time - several times, without touching the gas pedel, before it reluctantly catches. I might think it's flooded, but the strong smell is not gasoline, it's CO. Very strange and may be related to the MIL that's turned up.

THEN, last week, I had an engine code come up. It says I've got a" lean condition on bank 1", which I assume is the only bank on an inline

4.... This likely means, um, fuel pressure? Filter, Clogged injector? Sensor failure?

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what to check out for problems. I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Oh, and power is ok, maybe a bit weak, milage is normal.
