When cold, or when it's not been in use for 3 or more hours, the transmission will not shift properly.
To start out you get stuck in 1st, then after ~2 mins, it will reluctantly shift to 2nd. After 10-15 mins it will shift to 3rd, and it takes a long time to get to overdrive. Sometimes you can get it to shift ahead of that schedule by dropping to 2nd, then back to drvie a few times. Occasionally that will make it shift. Once the vehicle has been running 20 minutes or so, it's perfectly normal and safe for the freeways.
I took it in for service yesterday, and they flushed the transmission fluid. Drove it 110 miles afterwards, only to find myself on the 101 with a max speed of 45 MPH. Dangerous (well not at rush hour) to say the least. Morning after I was stuck going 20 for a few mins, then 40, and finally I could 50 a few yard before I made it to work.
