Is a Toyota oil filter better than a filter from a local auto supply?

We don't know. That MR2 oil filter test is nine years old. Things have changed. Neither Toyota nor Denso publish industry standard oil filter test results for their filters. They have the results, but they keep them to themselves. WIX is top quality filter construction and average filtration according to numbers from WIX. Purolator Pure One is excellent filtration.

The best source of info we have is from folks with very high mileage on their engines and who've one brand of filter most of that time. Toyota filters show up very well.

LOL! If you're going to use that standard, I put 227k on my '94 p/u with no engine work changing oil every 10-15k at Jiffy Lube, which would mean a Pennzoil/Fram filter and Valvoline or Castrol 20w-50.... adding a quart or two when the oil pressure gauge would swing down on a curve or when braking.

Better to look at a Ford with high mileage and various filters... Toyotas won't tell you much about anything other than Toyotas..
