40 hp finally starts

Jan 10, 2004 5 Replies

trying to get my 40 hp going and today was the day. I posted here before under "40 hp won't start" a couple of wks ago. Several people responded to my post and I thank you. The reason why it wasn't starting was because it was 180 degrees out. I switched around spark plug wire and it fired right up. Ran it for a couple of minutes and then.........oil started running out of in front of engine from the clutch area.......I looked up and noticed that the oil light was now on so I immediately shut it down...................any thoughts on this???? All new everything.........hhhhhelp please.

Mike

this would be an indicationof a leak...............

( sorry. Couldn;t help myself.)

Likely that you have a bad oil cooler seal, and will need to remove the shroud , at the very least, and put new seals in.

It could be worse than this, but this is the quickest answer to that condition.

There is the possibility that you have a huge leak in the oil cooler itself, or something along that line of issue.............take it down and see what's happening.

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't her's. It isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs. -- Oxford University Press, Edpress News

Thanks for the reply. I went out looking to see where the oil was coming from and it didn't appear to be coming from the oil cooler. I then got looking through my boxes of parts and I think I found my front seal!!!! O MY GOD.... you guys are going to kick me off this newsgroup! I must have overlooked it when I was putting my brand new 40hp motor togeather. well....................I will pull engine and put that baby in.......hopefully I didn't tear to many things up.....

Damn Mike...................You Are so fired!

Cardinal sin man!..................Jan has probably done the same thing too, so don't feel too bad.................LOL

Well, if you have one more slip-up, we might ask that you ask all further questions for the next two weeks in the watercooled newsgroup.

Also, no phone or TV privileges for a week. ;-)
