got my steering wheel off (and more). my steering column doesn't lock when key is removed (never has since I've had the car). turns out the wheel-locking "deadbolt stud" on the side of the ign switch doesn't 'pop out', EVER, key in or key out, in any position. also, there's a small round rubber plug covering, in the switch, what i call a 'cast in blind hole" (hole seems pointless and "cast in place"-there's nothing at its bottom OR side). and there's some sort of round drilling in the top left of the lock housing, at about approx the 11 o'clock position, which (I'm guessing) has to do with maybe removing the lock cylinder
car is a "late 71" ghia, I believe. (it's a '71 for sure). also, the ign switch is "in the side of the steering column", so I'm assuming (possibly in error?) that ALL "key in the column SIDE" cars "should" lock their steering wheel when ign key is removed...
if it matters: part number on side of ign switch housing is 111 905
851 L (capital ell). also, original factory wires "from" the ignition switch itself are: one big black with red stripe, one (small) brown with a blue stripe, one BIG solid red, one medium yellow with a black stripe, and one (medium sized) solid black
