Hi , I have a 1970 VW Ghia , rebuilt the motor ( upgraded a ton D.P.Kads etc.}.Inserted motor and ready to wire but questioning the alternator type ( switched from Gen. to Alt.).I bought it thru ebay as a Motorola internally regulated unit . I will describe the terminals on the Alternator...on the top of Alternator is a white square plate with only 3 screws on the on 3 corners , 4th corner is blank (size of square is about
1 3/4" x1 3/4" ).In the center of the white square (but still part of that assembly ) is a white circular section (rise about 1/2 - 3/4") and about an inch in diameter , with three male spade (flat) type electrical connectors ...each connector has a designation (1) says D- , (2) says D+ , (3) says DF . Then the only other connector on the Alt. is to the right of the white sguare , it is a fairly small stud with designation..B+ ............am I internally or externally regulated ?......am I Motorola or Bosch ?...do you know any part #'s or suggestions if I have to buy an external Volt. regulator to make sure I get the right one? I think I can get the wiring handled if I can figure out exactly which Alt. I have . Speedy Jim has a most excellent web site on wiring and tons of vw tech help ...Hey , I know this post is huge...very sorry ...my car is ready to fire up and I'm stuck .Thank-You for your time , VonFultz (Robert)- posted
