Asking Again...

Hi,

Is it possible to put a 1970 Type 2 motor and manual transmission into a Type 4 that used to have an automatic transmission?

If so, is it a complex conversion or fairly easy?

I can buy a 412 (w/o motor or tranny) for $150. It's a 1974 (if I recall correctly) w/ 4 doors.

Pretty complex, prohibitively so if you ask me.. First of all, The '70 Type

2 had an upright style cooling setup, so you'd be on your own for cooling tin and an oil cooler- type 3 maybe? Even so, you'd have to find a way to seal the engine compartment for proper cooling. Second, the oil filler is different, as is the dipstick placement. Carburetion would be a nightmare, again you'd probably have to go type 3... Then comes the engine mounts, clutch, pedals, shift linkage, tube, etc... Transaxle, who knows.......... Why not just find a Type 4 engine (maybe from a late model van), find a manual trans and related linkage that will fit, and convert it that way? MUCH easier.

I agree. Looking things over, I don't see any way *I* can pull it off.

Thanks!
