Bus Brake Job

Hi all. I have a 69 Bus restoration project going and I started with the brakes. I have replaced the master cylinder and all associated parts. I have not replaced the wheel cylinders or anything else yet, my intent was to flush the system first, then replace the wheel cylinders etc. All was well until I got to the right rear wheel and to my surprise no fluid came out. I broke the system down and now know the hard line is clogged, the one from the master to the right rear. It is not the rubber line. Dose anyone know how to clear a clogged line? I thought about compressed air, however I have no idea how to make the hook up. Thanks in advance, Bill

The rear lines don't go all the way to the M/C. There is a TEE fitting in the rear where they split off. The Right side has a longer pipe with an extra bend and that may be why it clogged after only......~40 years .

You can develop very high pressures just pressing on the pedal. I'm surprised that wouldn't clear any clog. IOW, I'm suspicious. Inspect that line carefully for damage and maybe replace it in any event. (I assume you are replacing all the rubber hoses anyway.)

Look at the lower section. You do not have 83, so you have one long line, 42

  • 30. It goes to the tee, 36, and then splits to the left and right. If you have fluid coming out the left rear, your problem HAS to be after the tee. Either 45 or 52 may be plugged but I doubt it. 99 out of 100 it is the flex hose, # 49. Start by disconnecting the lines from the rear going forward. 52 at 49, 49 at 45, 45 at 36 etc. When you find fluid, you will know the line you just disconnected is the problem.
