When my wife and I were riding our bicycles this weekend we passed a VW show at a local car dealer's lot in Carlsbad, CA. Folks must have come from miles around to show off their pride and joys. We saw many beautiful, sweet, lovingly-restored splitties and buggies. It was very, very inspiring.
"We could do that," sez my wife. "I'd love a little bug. I was talking to one of the guys and he said that there is a good upholstery shop in Oceanside. I told him that you had been working on a 71 bus and he said that 71 buses are great first VW's for folks to start on."
I explain that parts are available, and I figure that maybe it would be fun. But, alas, I don't have a shop or a garage to do the work in. No matter how fair the weather is in this neck of the woods, I can't see restoring a car in the driveway.
But my gracious some of those vintage 60's and 50's VW's were pretty. Even the bright red fire truck bus.
