Dimming Headlights?

Nov 08, 2003 1 Replies

No I don't mean high/low switch. But noticed on my drive home this evening that both the dash and headlights would be bright. then dim, then go back to bright, etc...

I have no other gauges, but the red dash light never came on. So I am thinking its the alternator, voltage reg, or a bad ground, or perhaps just an old battery. Any suggestions for diagnosing this weirdness?

TIA,

Bryan

sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator/generator is malfunctioning and allowing excess voltage into the system. sometimes your system may go up to 16 or 18 volts and then back down to 14 volts. check out the voltage with a meter to see if it changes when the lights change! later, dave Reminder........
