Does anyone know for sure whether the drive shafts for a Beetle are the same as for a KArmann Ghia? I think they are but need to confirm. It looks like I can special order complete drive shafts at my local auto parts store but I want to make sure in case I cannot return them. Thanks.

Howdy...
A clarification question -- you mean the stub drive shaft in the center of your tranny? They're the same.
Chances are one of us on the board has a trashed tranny and would have it avail for you.
May even be me -- what year tranny

Or the splined shaft connecting to the brake drum? or the actual axel with the CV joints?
I meant the drive shafts with the CV joints on each end. I want to just trade mine in for complete assemblies. The local auto parts store only has a listing for Beetle.
.................Just a warning based on my experience with those ready to install rebuilt half-axles. I've used them several times over the years and about half the time, they don't last even a year before that old familiar clicking sound starts up again. I had one let go completely without any warning noises (the outside CV housing had split apart).
I have decided to just replace the CV joints. I have read that the German ones are the best. I have see these German one advertised as Lobros or something like that. Is this brand the correct German brand to use or is there another? There is also a GFK brand. Any comments?

Thanks for the link, but there is no indication what brand these CV joints are. Plus they seem a little pricy.
