Engine Cooling Flaps

After rigging a cross-arm connector onto the actuators for my fan shroud flaps, and installing the connecting rod to the thermostat, getting the shroud back on, etc., it now occurs to me that the newer "doghouse" oik cooler compatible fan shrouds do not have that spring that loads the cooling flap actuator lever toward the open position, as on the older shrouds. Is there any danger in this, e.g., flaps not staying open when they should?

A couple of years ago a clip came off the flap located by #3 and was not all the way open. That will never happen again as my flaps stay open all the time as God intended. Yes, to answer the question, by all means make sure a good spring is fastened to the leaver and nothing binds when it moves.

Yes they do have that same spring. Look closer.

Well, the spring on the old shrouds is on the outside of the front of the shroud. I don't see any provision for a spring on this one.

there is a small hole in the connecting rod(that goes across the back of hte shroud) and a small hole in the doghouse part of the shroud...the spring goes there...
