Friend has restored bug for sale

Over on the SAMBA, check out a fellow club member's '74 restored VW for sale... He's moving from the Kenora, Ontario area and is going to need to sell it. ;-(

I've shared space on the grass at car shows with him and it's a very good car (no rust).

Anyway, here's a link to his post on SAMBA:

RESTORED '74? $8,900? Boy, I've got a '72 that's hardly even been driven. It doesn't need restoring!

Why does it strike me as just plain crazy to 'restore' a relatively recent Bug and sell it for a crazy price? Send me the addresses of those who fall short of the asking price. I'll sell for half that.

You have more than $8,900 in a '74? Well, I think year nutz. That's over the top. You could have started with an earlier model and come out the same without having that fuging ugly styling of the later Bugs. I swear some guy was given the charge of making the Bug uglier ever year.

And you are wrong about rust. My '72 has absolutely no rust. Ever.

its all relative...tell us again how much you spent on the engine for your late model aftermarket bodied car again?

That's 8900 cdn........................What's that in Merkin?..........5k?? (pokin fun)

It's a really nice example of a beetle of that model though. apparently some good attention to detail. might be worth all of that.

Totally agree with that -- by the time I've restored my 75 it will probably be as old as a 66 is now... :) Remco

Yes, I am nuts. However, I don't seem to an angry bitter bastard such as yourself. To put this in perspective $2800 for the car, $1400 for a new engine, $450 for the trans, $4500 into bodywork plus innumerable parts and it adds up quick.

More power to you. If you find an extra buyer or two, maybe I'll drive mine up there and sell it.

I ain't bitter at all. $4500 for body work - well, that's where the money went. I forget that there are parts of the world were Bettles are in bad shape.

Almost funny, but I wouldn't call a Raby engine 'lame'. (You should see my Kelmark. No Bug in it.)

I got a good deal. What can I say? The PO was a compulsive neat-freak who wouldn't even drive it in the rain. It came from Utah. BTW, the two best Bugs I ever got came from Utah.

There's an Isetta for sale across the street. He wants $5500 for it. That's nutz.

Hey, what can I say. I don't like what VW did to the bugs in the Seventies. You do. Good for you.

Don't worry. You might outlive me and then when you are sixty-something you can wonder out loud why someone would "restore" a 1999 something-or-other.

Nope. I don't hate anyone.

Cool! (I actually got my bug for nothing so anything costing more is an easy thing to do :)

Now I want to see what you got -- have pictures of your bug posted somewhere, Joey?

where did he mention the engine...?.... "some kind of lame LOOKING sports car"....nope no references to engine at all.... come on John you are slipping...i'm worried about you...

why would i do that? its your common everyday work in progress....paint stripping/priming partially done, all trim/bumper holes/ front turn signals shaved, and gathering parts for the new stroker.... nothing special....

Yea, grab it and run, before he changes his mind :)
