Front Beam Trailing Arm Bearings

I have not been able to find anyone that has the roller bearings for the front beam on a 64 bug. Any advice? How long to the plastic bushings last if you use them? Do all the bearings have to be removed to uses the bushings or can I use just one. Do the outer plastic bushings have to be reamed when installed?

The needle bearings on the 64 are the same as the upper ones on 66 and later beams. Someone should be able to get them for you, or try the dealer (part #: 111 401 301).

WOW that other price scared me John. lol It would have been almost less expensive to purchase a new front axle beam for $100. Although a lot more work. ;-)

$25/2 sounds like an easier way to go. Just pull the old ones out and press the new ones in. I have only done a couple of these and I used good used ones that I saved from rusted out beams. Now that I know where I can buy new ones...........

the new axle beams have micarta bushings, not bearings, in them. The OEM bearings are much nicer, much smoother and less stiction.
