gear slipping

Hi All!

'69 beeetle with 1200 engine:

The no 2 gear tends to just slip back into neutral when it feels like it!.

I just had my beetle back from the workshop. Before going into the workshop, the No1 and 2 gears were jumping and the gear stick was very loose. After the transmission was taken off by my mechanic and checked by another gearbox specialist who said that there was nothing wrong with the box. My mechanic then checked the gear selection area for a bushing replacement (where the gear stick is) and finally everything was put back.

My mechanic was not happy with the test drive and took the gearbox off again to examine the clutch and pressure plates which he did not do initially. He found them to be warped and sent them in to be refurbished as he could not get a reconditioned set for the beetle.

I have only driven the car for 20 minutes at a time for two days now and the no 2 gear seems to be a problem. Did speak to my mech yesterday, he is very sick with a serious tummy problem. 'Looks like he has transmission problem as well!'

Help!
