Buggy slips out of 2nd and 4th

Please help my buggy slips out of 2nd and 4th. I can usually hold it in

2nd went accelerating but there is no downshifting it spits it out of gear as soon as the clutch is released. there is no way to drive with it in 4th I can't even hold it in. Is there any possiblity that it is shifter or linkage related?

the tranny is a 1960 i think, it's a 6V swingaxle

thanks Dave

.....You may be able to adjust the linkage but 46 years is a long time in car years. Time for a rebuilt tranny.

Hi, check your nose rubber that bolt to your gearbox and chassis, they break out sometimes with buggys. w.

I am experiencing the same problem with the reverse gear and particularly on the 2nd gear slipping out after being engaged. This seems to happen on a downward slope. I have asked a beetle mechanic to test the car and fix the problem. He advised that the gear-box be removed and taken to a gearbox specialist who then claimed that nothing was wrong with the gear-box. After paying for the service, the problem was still there!! I took the car back to the G-specialist and he did some short-cuts in terms of making a hole somewhere underneath and did an adjustment. It did reduce the "jumping out of gear" problem as the reverse gear is now behaving, but 2nd gear "slipping out" is'nt.

Am still sitting with the same problem. The rubber bush has been replaced just under the gear change stick as the gear stick was very loose and selection any gear was a frustrating effort. I believe a further final adjustment "somewhere in the box" will eliminate the problem. I will know the outcome in a few weeks time.
