I'm having a hard time picturing what you have from the written description.
In any event, D+ *must* go thru some kind of small 12V lamp.
You can simply hang a 12V pilot light in the engine bay from D+ to the Coil "+" terminal. When you turn the key On, current will flow from the Coil (+) and thru the lamp to the Alternator to get it started charging.
One word of caution: If you use an electronic ignition, sometimes the lamp will allow a small amount of current to "backfeed" from the Alternator into the Coil + even after the key is Off. In rare cases that can keep the engine running. A small diode in series with the lamp solves that. [Don't worry about this unless you actually have a problem.]

Sorry, I'll try again,The PO has wires Chris crossing all over this thing that I need to straighten out. This is how the PO had the generator wired, I had two wires on B+ terminal and one wire on D+.( I spliced these three wires together). I did not have a wire on 61, I do have a wire on DF that went to the generator. So anyway in reading and rereading your post I need to have a wire go from the coil + through a 12v light and then to the alternator. does this light stay lit like could I use the license plate light ? or does this light only light briefly till the alternator starts charging ? if neither what purpose does the light serve ? sorry for the stupidity but i have never wired a generator or an alternator i have wired lights and horns. Thanks David

The light only comes on briefly until the engine starts and the alternator begins charging.
So you can't use a license plate light, although one that size dangling from the Coil to the Alternator would work.
