Well, I polarized the generator and still no luck. But I did notice that if I removed the D+ wire from the regulator and hook my test light up to the D+ on the gennie the light lights up. So what does that mean? Bad regulator? Or is something likely connected up wrong?

To know for sure, you'll need to beg/borrow/steal a voltmeter. Then do the tests on my web site.
