GEX Engines beware

Jan 29, 2004 13 Replies

I purchased a 2.1 vanagon engine from GEX and I have tried for over 3 months to get GEX to return my $800 core deposit to no avail. they acknowledge receipt of the core but they are financially strapped and will not return my money. Unfortunately the engine leaks oil as well . I would avoid GEX whenever possible. You will save money with a reputable engine shop i assure you. AVOID GEX. you will thank me later

.....................I'd be supportive of HVW's & VWT if they chose to stop accepting advertising money from GEX. It would be a tremendous service to the ACVW community. GEX is a bad company that preys upon the unsuspecting readers of their publications.

.............I'm a subscriber to both.

Had you bothered to search this newsgroup for old messages related to GEX, you would have known to stay away.. the worst reputation in the market. None of what you say is a surprise.

Thanks anyway for confirming that they haven't changed one bit over the years. Sad.

ouch.....the only place ive ever gotten ACVW engines from before was BAP, based in arizona, those babys are bulletproof....

I just signed up for "Ultra Vw" instead...

...................That's fine for you and the rest of us who know better but it doesn't keep less experienced ACVW owners who don't know any better from buying VWT or HVW's off of a news-stand and being fooled by those pretty full paged color ads from GEX.

...............Biblical stoning: A large angry mob throws large rocks on to the head of the condemned outcast.

...............Modern stoning: A large fatty gets sucked until the condemned outcast doesn't care about the angry mob but does want their food.

:-)

I think if the customer who gex refuses to give his core money back would contact hot vws and trends and let them know about their financial problems, they would put them on a cash basis to protect themselves.

unfortunately Tim, it won't happen....those big glossy color ads are expensive....the vw rags believe all green is good green.... J

I've got two of those engines, one in my '60 Bug the other in a '60 Ghia, they are great engines.

The fact that they don't (can't?) accept credit cards is a dead give away.

All I can say is if it wasn't for a gex engine I wouldn't have my 67 westy.

The PO bought a GEX (boat anchor) and one of the case savers pulled free, gex wouldn't make right so he called me to come get the bus cheap or he was sending it to junk yard. theres even an ad now on the samba right now of a guy selling his bus for the same reason

I've only delt with 2 gex engines, the first I regret having tell a friend to buy, it was a mess from day one
