Help replacing front fender, headligh plug

Well, a deer attacked me the other night, long feared but this is the first time. Anyway, it warped the front right fender, and did a nasty job on the tire. So I now have a new fender but how do I get the headlight plug off? There must be a good way to get the plug off, obviously it will not go through the hole for the wires. What is the standard operating proceedure for this.

Thanks, Tim, std 74

most people will cut the wires off then splice the wires back together after the fender is replaced.

But if yours arent cut and spliced already - you can stick a jewelers screwdriver into the socket where you should see a little tab and the metal part of the connector should slide out... may take some work but dont force it or you will have to buy another connecor and then you 'll end up splicing it any way... mark the wires/connector before you take them out so you know which slot they go into on reassembly.

if they are all ready spliced then you can just cut and resplice : p

If you carefully follow the wiring harness into the luggage compartment, there's a "splice" that you can remove the wiring from, and unscrew one screw near the front of the gas tank, and slide all the wiring out with the bad fender.................Easy enough really.I believe there's two harnesses that come together at the body and can be removed their seperate ways ( top of fender, and headlight area) Although it has been a while since I have pulled one, I don't recall having any isuues with the whole process of removing the harness.

Now would be a good time to replace any old cracked rubber also, as this is when things will be apart far enough to justify replacement.

Right, you don't have to cut. The socket will come off. Take a close look and you can do what dragen said, with the skinny screwdriver.
