Hi all. I'm new to Beetles, so I wonder if you could assist me. I have a
1972 Beetle (South African Edition) that starts and idles great. However, if the car is driven, it reaches about 2500 to 3000 rpm without problems and then seems to cut out or stutter. You can't get above 70km/h in fourth gear. I suspect that it is a carburettor problem. Are there perhaps two circuits - one for low revs and one for high revs? The strange thing about this problem is that if the car is in neutral and I accelerate, I cannot hear the car hesistating. I haven't dismatled the carb, but have used one of those liquid carb cleaners that you buy from spares shops. No luck. Any comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated.Regards, Elvin
