Hi, I'm new here

Bought an '07 Yaris in March. Love the car!

So for starters, who do I need to killfile here to lower the signal to noise ratio?

You can try OT: but be careful: you may filter out stuff like ToyOTa.

Most posters (Yours truly included) begin their rants OT: or {OT:}, so just ignore them.

Of course, getting a bloody nose around here is kinda half the fun!

And while we talk politics a lot, if someone asks a car related question, they usually get an answer, QUICK!

(And I'll bet you'll be in on the OT: posts within 3 weeks...not many can resist! :)

Have fun!

On "alt.obituaries" they talk baseball ...and deaths. Here we talk politics..........and toyotas.

Just pick an large off topic thread and killfile everyone in it. That will reduce it by about 75 percent.

Good Idea. You probably killed about 50% of useful posts this way, too.

Maybe, but then you will be boried talking about your new Yaris.

Yep. It was intended to flush out the trolls right from the start. All groups have a few.

So, did you get the sedan or the hatch? I love quirky little Jap cars, so I would have gone for the hatch.

The sedan looks like a midget Camry ;)

Won't work - too many people here who know their Toyotas /and/ are educated in (or even specialists in) another field, might have a relevant and educated comment to add in an OT Thread. (Sometimes even a thread that's obviously heading down the drain towards Godwin's Law, in a vain attempt at raising the SN and the 'intelligence level'.)

Ergo, if you just kill-file posters based on one posting in an OT thread you're going to get way too many false positives.

You know how to spot a Troll, the nym-shifters are easy to ID. The utter fools out themselves fast by making grandiose claims that can't be true, or by making statements taking diametrically opposite sides on the same issue in rapid succession just to be a contrarian. And some can't understand the basic idea of the charter and aren't even trying to hide the fact they're shilling for another auto maker.

And a few of our trolls are a Multiple Choice Bonanza with the "All Of The Above" box checked.
