idiot lights, what signals do they supply on startup?

I don't think most idiot lights get a full 12 volts!!! 8^) Not sure on your aftermarket gauge though.

Alt and oil pressure lights? They are 12V bulbs, and why shouldn't they get 12 volts? Been a long Chicago Winter, Doc?

AH yep but spring is almost here since the snow maybe has stopped! :-)

And maybe too many watercooled with LEDs and not enough aircooled! :-(

Yes, the Oil and Alt go "low" to light the lamp. The other side of the lamp goes to switched 12V. Alt signal goes "high" when charging and Oil signal goes "open" (no pull-up) when pressure is normal.

so am i correct in thinking that the oil pressure and alt send ground signal on startup? And I can tie the other terminal to my ignition switch +12v? It's just a standard 12v light, but instead of the number of terminals is 2 instead of 1 that i see on my speedo that I took out... I'm thinking my Speedo was giving it 12v from the turn sig hot terminal since it seems to go all the way across the 3 lights, but is insulated from the center connection of the turn, oil, and gen/alt signal terminals.... and I think the turn sig is a grounding on/off coming from the switch correct?
