Is fuel injection compatible with LPG?

I'm thinking of doing some experimenting with completely electronic controls - even the valves - and while I'm at it, going propane for long life.

Can't do fully electronic control with a carb, though, so I'm wondering if FI is compatible with LPG.

Unless I'm wrong about the need for FI - maybe electronic control of the valves could be the equivalent?

Thanks for your answers!

This is hardly an answer to your question but here are some more questions since you have me think about it:

A standard bug is not known for horsepower, so won't LPG make it much worse?

Doesn't LPG burn totally different? With the bug counting on a specific combustion efficiency for optimal cooling, I wonder if LPG would need quite a bit of adaptation in the cooling as well.

Woudn't the heads need to change? The valves probably need to be harder, right?

Interesting pondering, though. Wonder if anyone's ever done that one before..

You are starting with the wrong engine.

I've often wondered about this. It would seem that LPG at the right pressure should work just the same as gasoline. I just really have no idea what the right pressure would be.

Why would you need "fully elect control"?

I have a 1 cylinder 4 stroke engine sitting about 3 feet from me. Carburated. Still able to run on gasoline too. Has pressure regulator connected directly into the carburator, and runs great off propane.

A neighbor has a 70's ford truck that is propane powered

they don't spit out smoke for sure

LPG makes less HP, making less heat. More heat, more power.

It can probably be done... Don't know the answer as to "how", but I know that at least as far back as the '60s, the VW factory Quality Control tested the engines using LP gas. Good luck! BTW if you ever figure this one out, let us know or post it on a site. :)
