Karmann Ghia wiring harness

I'm installing a new wiring harness in a Ghia convertible, and am having trouble pulling the old dome light harness out. As this is a convertible, there are rubber sockets on the top of the windshield frame which are engaged by pins on the convertible top.

It appears that the bundle, where the old harness is attached to the drag line for the new one, is catching on this socket. Does anyone know how to remove the rubber without damage?

Or if this is even the problem (in case it's another well-known gotcha)?

Thanks!

Greg

Hey Greg

What I do is string thin welding wire around the ends of the old wires connectors, then electrical tape it tight so there is no edges. Next spray the tape with WD40 (the gromets also when you can).

Pull the wires from under the windshield, make sure the welding wire is following thru the post.

Once the end with the connecters are out tape the welding wire around the new harness conecters retape and spray and with someone helping feed the new harnes slowly pull the welding wire back.

Hope this helps

With all the bondo you use, you must have a shitload of welding wire. [or do you mean coat hangers?]
