Well, that sucks. Could you tell how the fire started?

I couldn't but hope my mechainc can. I think it may have been a short. But my friends says it was a gas fire. Gas was still leaking out when I had it at the mechanics. But that hose could have burned.

Maybe the gas hose came off causing a loss of power and when I kept pushing the gas it sprayed it with more fuels. Lots of burned wires and stuff in the engine compartment but may be salvageable.

Well, all may not be lost. If the body has not been burned and is in good shape, you could sell it. I see VW Bugs that are projects cars, dismantled cars, etc. all the time on Ebay - and they usually bring a good price.

wow sorry for mishap but it should be salvageable! ;-) I have repaired a few in the past. Body work takes the most time though. Did the body burn up too, taking the rear glass and such? I would suspect a gas leak. I always like putting new fuel hoses and clamps on the engine.

I thought that most windshield washer solution had alcohol (read FLAMMABLE) in it. At least if I spray some bad spark plug wires with washer fluid it will catch on fire. 8^o

Oh I guess some of the safety items to be kept in the vehicles are reflector triangles, fire extinguisher, tools and other items I SHOULD have in my vehicles. lol

I could sell it as is but I would probably not get what I have in the Tires (New) and rims. Body had some damage dings and such. Just had the big hole behind the back seat fixed. Probably just pull the tires with the 300 dollar rims (Formula Vee Turtle Back) and the brake parts and install on my newest car. May try and do the brake myself to save on money as the new car doesn't have as much invested in it. Then take it to my mechanic and have him check the transmission and engine (Which is running but un known condition).

I do not want the same thing to happen again.
