news from The Samba .... looks like Trends is gone

oh guranteed......the magazines serve a purpose, and it is not a technical resource anymore....they are for showing off, and hopefully snagging new people into our little world....hard to imagine, but the guy that is "into" modified imports(hondas/etc) could be the next big inovator in *our* vw scene because he saw a "phat azz" bug on the cover of a magazine while checking out "riceboy tuner mag".....

and a far more reliable source of info....i wish i had the internet and all its info when i was gaining my vw experiences/misadventures.....no magazine can touch a good forum full of poeple with experience and new ideas...but they are still necessary in my opinion....maybe not as much as they used to be, but still necessary....(my opinion of course)....

LOL I ended my subscription as soon as Kaferdave left trends. And I believe after talking personally to Ryan just after he became editor that whe was given command of a sinking ship.

True. We may never know, and it is a good idea to suspend judgement of Ryan. We aren't talking about war crimes. :)

When I read comments like the above, something inside me stirs in anguish and wants to shout "It is not true that people do not want paper magazines!" but the Internet and portable computer has changed the picture so that certain magazines will be diminished by the 'net, but other magazines will be created... but maybe no ours. :(

This is a big loss to the ACVW people. My son keeps an active subscription to them and I to Hot VW's. Between the two magazines much knowledge has been shared. Competative magazines keep each other working hard for their readerships and loosing one often affects the quality of the other. I hope Wright publishing and their "crated" treasure in the back room will increase the quality and not get lax. Dennis

...............You sound almost like your old self this morning John. Do the meds start wearing off as the day goes on?

:-)

...............I'd say that the Volkswoman column was the worst part of VWT in recent years. It was all fluff & had no real content.........ever. It became painful trying to read it sometimes. Eventually, I stopped bothering to even try.

.....Amazingly, she's asking the Common Gear listees to wish her luck on finding someplace else for her to write that silly nonsense. I hope she isn't expecting to get paid.

LOL, I read a couple of those but not as of lately, does she still wirte like this:

I have a single cab, blah blah blah blah blah blah my single cab blah blah blah blah and one time, in my single cab blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Whats happening in the midwest as far as aircooleds go? beats me, I've been too busy trying to explain to non VW people that my single cab isn't homade! blah blah blah blah................ oh and did I mention I have a single cab? Oh, I've read some of her articles. I think she has a really sweet double-cab, but I wasn't paying very close attention.

After I eat a couple interns for breakfast, make at least five nurses cry and an anesthesiologist walks off the job I feel much, much better.

You sure it wasn't *you* who lost their job today? Or maybe you're just pretending to be an asshole? Is that the funny part? Oh, wait. I don't care, JJ. (I just read your other posts you made over the last 15 minutes or so and can't be bothered to reply to them all so this one will have to do.) I think I'll call you that from now on. JJ. Like that skinny dude who used to say "DY-NO-MITE!" all the time. JJ. heh heh. Makes me laugh. :-D Let me try.... OUTTASITE!!!!!

wow...you really pride yourself on being unpleasant....i guess everyone needs a goal....

JJ's just worried about being replaced by a machine. At work, and at home. DY-NO-MITE! :-D

that is a possibility too...

While the articles may be silly, they are not the only reason for the demise of VWT. I wish I knew a few more people who were as enthusiastic about VW as Lois. I know her from my old days in NEATO and the stories she wrote about her Single Cab (Vern?) were pretty good then. Andy

Are there any overseas publications for the ACVW?

...................I found her writing to be very tedious and totally lacking in content. I don't doubt that she's a nice person and that she loves her single cab but whoever hired her to write a monthly column about practically nothing ought to have their head examined.

VolksWorld from the UK. The magazine that I feel is the best monthly aircooled VW publication in existence today.

I guess I must be confused. I get VWT each month. They don't appear to be "dieing". They just last month changed the cover art and format. They finished a resto on a super 2 issues ago. Last issue they started a ground up resto on a bus. Seems like an awful long term project for a mag that is closing up shop. I wonder how many people have read it recently. The tech article I have seen have been well done and seem well researched. They are saying the same things that people on this group are. I hope it is just a rumor. I am subscribed untill 2010......*8-}
