Odometer Reading ?

Hi All!

Does anyone know IF there is a way to determine an odometer reading on an older bug is "accurate" - I am looking at an older one that has VERY low mileage.

Thanks - B

You can probably tell if the Speedo has been opened, but not if it's just been swapped out.

Or if it has simply gone round once. Or if it has been spun backward to reset it. Neither of these will show any outward signs.

The best indicator of mileage is a thorough examination of wear items on the car.

In VA the mileage is written on the pink inspection stub received each year. See if they are in the glove box. DMV should have mileage on the title when it was last sold too.

OK, it depends on what state you are in. In Illinois the only time that you get mileage on a car is when it is sold. Some parts of Illinois have smog tests and they record mileage there, but mostly VW's are exempt anyway back from 67.

Wolf, you live in Va?....is so, you anywhere in the southwestern part?

Does the rest of the car agree with the low miles? Pedal pads, seats, steering wheel, and door panels all show wear with miles. Andy
