Local news: TRAFFIC ALERT: Cary officials report significant traffic delays after a piece of pavement has buckled on an access road to U.S. 1/64 South just before Walnut Street. DOT crews are on the scene.

It got so damn hot that the concrete um... infastructure under the road somehow expanded and buckled upwards and caused the road to sprout its own massive speed bump. They (dept of transportation) had to go in and break out a chunk of the road and fill it in temporarily with gravel and stuff. DAMN it's hot out there. :-)

Wow! That's something else - I wished our CT roads expanded that way so that the potholes left by winter would automatically fill in... :) (if you've ever been in southern CT, you'll know what I am talking about)

Here in Florida the freaking hurricanes just wash the road away! No heat problems :)

Here in Iowa we have the roads "blowing up " during the summer all the time. It is the weather that we have that will range from 10 below zero or colder in the winter to a high in the summer of 98 degrees above in the sumer. The earth contracts so much and the pavement can't keep up. I see some lowriders every once in awhile and wonder how they keep from dragging. Iowa883

Same here in SLC. Over 100f. Five lanes down to one to avoid the damage. Long drive home after work. Days like this make me appreciate automatic trans and A/C.

Then I got home and took the Bug for some errands around the neighborhood.

WAAH!! Our numbers won't even fit on our chart:

Your high temperatures look the same as ours...I just wish our low temperatures in the summer got down that far!:~) Tomato plants won't produce unless the temperature falls below 80 degrees. This time of year, 'round here, that doesn't happen very often. I have to keep the plants alive all summer long so we will have more tomatoes in the fall and winter. Sometimes we get fresh, home grown tomatoes almost into January!

................You can have January. My tomatos are starting to ripen right now. It's been one of the best summers for them up here in NY in the past several years.

Bah.

The only vegetable I eat is chicken.

Jan :)

You should try fried Cherry Tomatoes, the smaller the better!

J.

...............You should try a nice thick slice of beefsteak tomato fresh from the back yard on a slice of bread and then smeared with a little mayonaise and sprinkled with some salt & pepper.

*drool* I LOVE tomatoes! My neighbor just gave me a BAG of them out of his garden this morning. ("protection" payment... *cough*) I ate three of them earlier today. YUM! My favorite fruit. :-)

I read this far and said "Yeah! What Tim said!"

But I guess this might be worth a try too :)

Jan

Eiiiuuu, no! If man were meant to eat plants he'd have multiple stomachs and continuously growing teeth. Check out your dentition. See those sharp incisors and especially the canines? They PROVE man was meant to eat meat, er, wait, that's my argument for the existence of vampires. Never mind.

Not in the United States. The Supreme Court (1893) declared the tomato a veggie. They apparently said, "Yeah, we know it's a fruit but everybody eats it like it's a veggie so it's a vegetable". (They just wanted the tax money from imported vegetables.) Sheez, whatta buncha fruits. :o)

Wimp. Our temps are 102 currently.

107 yesterday. Been above 100 the last week or so. Been above 90 the last month.

And it sucks. Bad.

Wimp. While it's only 92 currently, it's been over 110 for the last week. Average temperature for the whole month has been 103.

Thats really got to suck. Has it been cooling off much at night ? We've been getting down to around 80 at night and that hasn't been helping us much.

103 right now. But we have a cold front on the way and it's only supposed to get up to 97 tommorow.

Lows over the last week have been mid-70s to mid-80s. Average low for the month of July has been 66. Looks like the forecast for the next week is highs around 105 and lows around 77.

We've had a bit of cloudiness today, which is what has kept the temps down. Currently it's only 97.

I guess the good news is that it's a dry heat; middle of the Mojave desert, don't'cha know.

Dry heat would be a good thing. Been real humid here making things much worse. Had to dig a big hole the other day and it's bone dry at

8 ft down. Ruined a pair of boots trying to shovel and then conned a neighbor to come over with his backhoe to finish the job. He even had trouble getting a hole started with that. Had to scrape away the 1st foot or so of soil before he could really start digging.

We have a cold front on the way. Should get here tommorow evening. If it starts raining, I will be out in the front doing my happy naked dance.
