Went into a "Deli de Luca"(They cover the same market as 7-11, just more up-market..)

The smallest bag cost me 2.96,-US$. The content was 25grams!! Which equals: 0.881849 ounce..

Whats the price of something similar in the U.S. these days? Ps. The bag said product of Brazil and less than 1g Fat... :o)

J.

Pps.Was very good though, tomorrow I will have to go and get the big bag IF I can afford it...

Sorry about the semi double post, but I forgott he biggest novelty: The bag came with a litle white moister absorbent bag inside, just like you get with delicate electronic equipment..

It did say: Do not eat! I wonder if this ever could have been sold on the American market... :O)

jerky here in USA has the silica packet in it as well. Like they put in shoe boxes. :-).

One of my favorite brands for beef jerky:

's kinda expensive here, too. I don't buy it often. About $5 for 4ounces or so. I bought a dehydrator and make my own sometimes. Muchmuch much cheaper to make it homemade it it doesn't take very long, either. Dehydrators are CHEAP, too. $25 or so for one worth having. Then you can make other kinds of jerky like chicken, pork, etc, andyou can add whatever flavors you want like teriaki, soy sauce, peppersauce, extra salt, blah blah blah.

Is that the kind endorsed by the Simpsons, it being nearly "rectum free" :)

HAHA :)

Send me some? Beef, not the silica. ;)

Costco has a two 8 ounce bags for $9.99 US or about $.63 an ounce.

Bags of jerky or silica? :D

It's a fairly recent addition though.

I know those weren't in there in the early 90's anyways, when I darn near lived off the stuff during the summer road trips between Anchorage and Seattle.

Don't see why they're neccessary, jerky hasn't seemed to improved any since the packets showed up.

Ok, today I got the "big" bag, 100g = 3.5273962 ounce, and it cost me

9.1863 US$.

Which gives you 2.60 US$ an ounce..

J.

$9.1863? Wow, and I thought keeping the penny around was a waste of time. You guys are 100 times as nit-picky... :-) Must be a pain to haul around all of that loose change.

Cut and paste, and you know that! :o)

The best jerky comes from a butcher shop and costs around $15 a pound. My favorite place to buy it is in Dundee, Oregon and the second best place is in Oceanside, Oregon.

I make pretty good jerky with my electric smoker but it shrivels the hell out of a steak. I guess a hunk of raw meat looses about 80 of its weight in the smoking and drying process. I make a bunch of deer jerky after a successful hunt but I'm not all the successful... :o(

At my local "Maverik" store (covers the same market as 7-11, just caters more to the rednecks) a 4 ounce bag of beef jerky is $2.99. I bought an 8 ounce bag at Wal-Mart the other day for $5.84. Both of them have silica packets.

Neil

Because they absorb moisture, don'tcha know. Can't have our jerky getting all... moist... Or our shoes, since those come with them too. It's just one of those things where apparently someone somewhere decided "Oh My God! How did jerky survive all these years without silica packets?! QUICK! Let's start adding them now!" when you know it really isn't necessary. What really sucks is that the silica packets might be what we're paying for. And btw, the best jerky I've ever seen is Sam's American Jerky made in Titusville Florida. They only sell it locally though. We used to sell it at the store I worked at in Geneva. Fresh stuff, great flavor and not as expensive as the rest. No silica either. :D

K.

................Did that store have an upstairs apt. and a sheet metal garage/shop out back and a library or someting in an old house next door?

No. It was the Marathon that was built about 5 years ago. There is a 2 story feed store on Avenue C though. I know the family that owns it still lives in the apartment upstairs.
