I finally installed the new outside scraper on my 1974 Super Beetle and am happy that I can drive the car when it rains again. Thanks to Jan and Roger for their input. I pretty much followed Jan's steps. I found that to install this new scraper I had to:
Remove door crank, arm rest, release lever, trim panel, vapor layer, vent window, vent window seal, felt channel along the top and side, and felt channel clips.
I removed the two bolts holding the door window and lowered the window to the bottom of the door.
To remove the vent window I used the smallest file I had to file the top of the rivet off the hinge. This took about 15 minutes because I took my time to be very careful. I loosed the one bolt (in the door) holding the lower hinge and removed the vent window. I removed the seal and threw it away since I damaged it and it was the original 33 year old seal.
With the old scraper and everything mentioned above out the new scraper went it quickly. I first placed the new scraper in, put the felt channel clips in, and then the felt channel. I next put a thin bead of weatherstrip adhesive along the frame for the vent window seal and installed the new seal. Finally I put the vent window into the lower hinge first and lined up the top hinge of the vent window with the top hinge of the door and installed a new rivet.
