Spring is around the corner and while the snow is still piled high upon the cover of my jacked up 74 sunrrof bug, it's at least melting now. Can't wait to get it "un-winterized" and back on the road!
Last summer I began cleaning it up as the PO really had done alot of damage => the interior and most mechanicals have been taken care of and it proved to be a very reliable daily driver last summer. One major problem still plagues me:
The idle has always been rough and often quits at stop signs, etc. In addition, the VDO temp gauge I installed last summer indicated a long warm up period. I believe the thermostat may be stuck or disconnected and I'll get on that as soon as the snow melt enough to let me climb underneith.
I've managed to find an oem air filter with the "snorkel" attached (PO had installed a fancy chromed air cleaner, removed the pre-heat hose, and left the hole in the rear tin open!). I can locate a pre-heat hose just about anywhere. My question, what does the piece of tin look like that the hose connects to below the rear tin?; it's obviously gone. I can't remember what I had in the '73 super I owned
20 years ago and there aren't enough VW's around here to look for examples!
