Q: How to fit later model front sway bar in an Oval bug?

May 10, 2004 6 Replies

Well?

How have people done it?

The trailing arms are different, late model clips and rubbers don't fit. The sway bar itself can be bent to suitable angle. (Looks like the original shape is wrong for the link pin trailing arms.. )

Is there a kit for the link pin front end available?

Whatcha talking about, Jan? The 3/4" (19mm) sway bar? Or something else?

Anything really... start with the stock late model sway bar. (Std beetle, Ball joint)

I got my front and rear sway bars for the '74 chassis from Aircooled.net. John sent me the front one that clears my strange setup (lower). Fit very nicely. My '58 has similar front and rear add-on 19mm sway bars (link pin, of course). When it stops raining maybe I can take a picture of the later if it interests you.

I would be forever grateful.

For $19, why not get an early bar and then you won't have to mess with it:

in Finland selling those things?

Thanks, didn't knbow those exist.

And yes, I found a local shop that lists it in their catalog.

At 117 USD.

Probably from the very same source. (This kit includes mounting hardware)
