1) shift rod bushing and coupler in the back need to be in good shape first 2) The quick shift kit is AWESOME. All my cars have/will have them.

Consider replacing the whole shifter with a short-throw Hurst-like model. I put a trigger shifter short-throw shifter in my '63 and loved it. Here, you can see it in this picture:
"I can hammer it back into shape later."
Ok, cool, where can i get a nice metal one? everywhere ive looked online have those weenie plastic ones...

I haven't personally ever seen one.

Cheap, easy to install and you get what you pay for.
I put a Gene Berg shifter in my daughter's 74 SB a year ago and both of us love it, its a little on the pricey side but; like anything else, you get what you pay for. As soon as I get the rear quarter welded back into my 74 I'll be putting the same shifter in it.

I have to second the Gene Berg shifter...I recently got a really lowered (front and rear sway bars, it was done as "right" as a lowered beetle can be), hacked up dash (they installed every gage you can possibly imagine, and some I couldn't imagine), and a Berg shifter. Wow, this shifter is great.
When I had the '58 I had a berg shifter. Man, that was HEAVEN. First thing I did after deciding to get the bus was to email gene berg inc, and ask the price for the bus version. $238.73 plus shipping (ouch). So, I won't be getting it right away, but I will be getting it.
Cheers, Micah
