I have both a German 74 and a newly purchased 2003/1976 MexiBeetle.
We don't use either as daily drivers but I can see pros and cons of each German and Mexican.
The comment about the Mexi being geared low is correct. Took a bit of getting used to to shift up to 4th earlier than what is "normal" on the 74.
The seats sure are more comfortable on the 2003 Mexi! And it's actually a surprisingly smooth ride.
