Removing #2 main bearing?

Thanks! I will do everything in my power NOT to have to work on the Vanagon. I'll pop over to the WCVW NG and get the scoop on the coolant issue.

.........The scoop is that most coolants facilitate galvanic electrolysis between the steel cylinders and aluminum heads of the waterboxer engine in your '84 vanagon. Many of the coolants in the stores now say that they are 'safe' for aluminum heads & blocks but in reality they still are a problem for the waterboxer but maybe not as much as in the past. This electrolytic corrosion process can eventually erode the machined aluminum surface where the cylinder mates with the head causing the leakage of combustion gases into the cooling system. Once this starts there's only one solution but you're really getting into pulling and disassembling VW engines so that could possibly be seen as the next chapter of your saga with the wonderbus.............

.............Oh yeah, the Autobahn brand coolant that prevents all of these problems was $20 a gallon at the VW dealer here where I live last time I bought some. And..........If I ever get another bus, it's going to be aircooled!!!

I'm hoping not. Gosh, I really hope not.

The local VW shop just finished their inspection of the Vanagon and reported that while there is a little oil leakage, there is no sign of coolant leakage. All four cylinders have good 135 - 150 psi compression, brakes a little squishy, headlights no-op, steering good. All in all, they rated it in "not bad shape." So even though discussing a WCVW is OT for this NG, it does apply in that I now have WHEELS for the summer and can get a new engine in the Wonderbus, as well as tinker together the blown 1776 piece o' crap.

Worked fine, just a tiny amount of pressure needed. Thank you.
