Seat install on a '70 bug convertible

Hi everyone! I hope someone here can help me out. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to install the seats in my '70 bug convertible. I had everything out of it to replace the floor pans and to get a new paint job, and now it's time to put the seats back in.

Everything I've read online and in books indicates that it should be really easy: there's supposed to be some sort of spring steel thing I can push down and the seats will just slide on. The problem is, I can't find any spring or spring steel part of either the tracks in the floor or on the seat, aside from the spring that makes the adjustment lever pop back. The right-side seat tracks on the floor look something like this (crude ASCII art, sorry. I might be able to put a photo on the web if someone wants):

On the seat, there are a couple of small rectangular pieces of metal that look like they're meant to keep the seat on the track. There's two of them, one near the middle of the rail on the outside, and one near the back on the inside. The one near the back doesn't cause any problems at all, but the one in the middle on the outside hits on that little bit that sticks out toward the right side of the car at the front. Neither of these pieces seem to be movable in any way.

The only solution I've been able to come up with on my own is to snip off the corners of the bits that stick out so the seat can slide past them, but I don't know if that's a good idea from a safety standpoint. Any advice anyone has would be most welcome, because I'm at a loss for any more ideas.

If you need more information, let me know!

Thanks a lot, Zach Bean

My question Zack is did you replace the new pan seat rails with the original yet. if not your going to want to. I have done alot of pan replacements and have always replaced the seat rails with original ones. If your going to use the rails that come on the new pans then your going to have to hammer and tweek the rails to get your seats to fit....hope this helps
