Update. I cleaned the commutator, replaced the brushes on the generator and replaced the belt. I took the battery to have it tested. It was holding a charge, but the guy said it had a bad cell. So I went ahead and bought a new battery. Hooked up the battery and took it for a test drive. Looking good so far.
