Starter problem?

My 75 standard bug, I turn the key nothing happens. The ignition lights are on and battery is good. Is there a way to test the starter on the car? What are the steps to replace the starter. I'm not a VW expert so any help is appriecated, Thanks!!


Lift rear seat. On left side, look for Red wire connected to Red/Blk in a plastic splice. Jump this connection to battery + post. (Shift in Neutral!) If it cranks, starter is OK and Ignition switch is likely bad.

[One other possibility: early '75 still had the seat belt interlock relay. Info on my web site.]

If still no crank, examine the connections on the starter solenoid, especially the rush-on terminals.
