SVDA Dizzy; Where Do I Connect The Vac Hose?

Hi all! I have a '73 VW Beetle with a SVDA distributor. I have it's vac hose connected to the non smog 34PICT3 carb. Is this acceptible or would it better to connect it to the vacuum port on the left intake manifold? I currently have a dash VDO vacuum gauge connected there. Maybe I should connect the vac gauge to the carb and the SVDA to the left intake manifold? Thanks! Any help is appreciated! jplikesm73vwbttl

you have it connected correctly now, don't change it.

Yeah, you're fine. The vacuum port on the intake manifold was used stock to actuate the warm air valve for cold startups, then the thermostat in that valve would slowly close it as the engine warmed up.

The vacuum hose from the SVDA is connected to the vacuum port right beside the mixture and idle bypass screws. From your perspective, it should face left and it's quite high in the carb body. 34PICT3 carbs may have two other vacuum ports facing you at the base of the carb. Don't use these for the distributor.

It's also normal not to have any vacuum at this distributor port at idle or at full throttle. It's only when the throttle plate is slightly open, and the brass plate is above the tiny hole that eventually leads to the port does a signal get passed to the SVDA.
