Thanks Speedy, & another question

I'm the guy that had the 6V gen/reg problem...pressing on the brushes does make the light go out, but once I turn the car off, it'll come on again upon re-start. Press on the brushes (actually, the bottom one) again, it goes out again. The brushes don't have but maybe 4K on them, perhaps worn brush springs? Far as I know they are original (37 years old). Is there a source for new springs? I have a spare generator, but would rather not cannabalize it.

Again, Thanks!!

Make some little tool to lift the spring/brush; you can feel the spring tension that way. If the spring feels OK, the commutator likely has some kind of film on it; if so, you might be able to hold very fine abrasive cloth against it while spinning.
