Tired Shocks. Can I recharge them?

Hi RAMVA!

Today was the exposition called: "Live your own hell". And that was just because my shocks are tired, probably shot. I was driving around the city, doing about 40 mph, when out of nowhere, just after a turn, there was a pothole that looked like a meteorite crater. It blew one of my tires and punctured another one.

When I got to the pirelli dealer I found out that the price for my tires had gone up and thet my front shosk system can't be adjusted because there are lot's of defects

there

Now the questoin is, can I recharge my shocks?. My car is a '73 super beetle. And how can I do it?

thanks

You can buy new inserts/struts for the super front suspension. Maybe

can help. A local VW shop or suspension specialist may be able to help too.

Alan, There are no long struts left in the local VW shop. I'd have to wait two weeks for that. I just want to fix that now. Do you think a suspension specialist can recharge the struts?

I would imagine the seals of an old shock have worn out. Recharging them would only last a very short time, if there's a way to recharge them at all. I've never heard of such a thing. Shocks are pretty disposable, you use 'em then you replace 'em when they are worn out.

Thanks John and Alan. I found the shocks I needed at an old VW parts store, and on top of that, German. Thanks for your help.
