Tools: Harbor Freight, Sears

Somewhat OT, but relevant to the hobby we all share... anyone needs tools :)

And what I goit was AIR tools, so technically... LOL

Anyhooters, I found a HB store more or less on my way to work (If I took the slow route), and they had some stuff on sale and some very nice items in the clearance bins....

I got an air ratchet for $9.99, an air saw for another $9.99, and an air die grinder for 4 bucks! I love that store! ROFL :)

Of course, many items there are made in china, but with proper preventative maintenance, they might last a while.. and at any rate, 10 bucks is not a big loss if the damn thing can survive ONE medium sized job ;)

I also have Sears within a mile or two from where I live, I did have to go pick up some odds and ends, "refills" for my CRaftsman toolkit to replace missing parts. I asked about their return policy: Bring in any defective Craftsman tool that has a lifetime warranty, and you get a new one for free, unless there are clear indications of misuse. No receipt required.

I know most of you already know all this, but I just wnted to share my good mood. Maybe someone who is looking to buy his (or her) first tools is reading this and finds it useful.

I have been fairly satisfied with the Craftsman 150-some piece toolkit. Not the greatest, but they seem to do the job pretty well. Good quality for the price range.

No Biltema in Americum?? :-)

Ps. I do believe I own a small Sears or Craftsman set myself, was a gift in the early eighties... Only thing ever wrong was the ratchet handle go missing at a race track outside Gothenburg, Sweden. My mechanic took that upon himself, and swiftly nicked one at work to replace it. Sponsored by Oslo Sporveier! Still have the latter in fact..

Now kids, do not try that at home, you see the elderly are a bit demented and make things up, like fairytales. Yes, thats it!!

Now, crank that volume and get thy elders another brew son.

I've got Craftsman and Harbor Freight Tools. Rule number 1: Buy all hand tools that you use frequently (and require top quality) at Sears. That's "Craftsman" hand tools, not "Sears" hand tools. Lifetime warranty. For the widget, gizmo, dohinkey, adjuster, etc., that you might need for a special project or for rare use, go to Harbor Frieght. Of course, nearly everything at Harbor Freight (like Wal-Mart) is made in China.

The Harbor Freight metric 3/4" socket set if particularly nice to have when you're wrenching down on a gland nut or a castle nut on the rear axle. It's inexpensive, it works.

For everything else, the stuff that gets a lot of use, get the best you can afford.

Find broken Craftsmen tools at garage sales for very little money and turn in for new ones.

I buy harbor freight and own several other brands. If you have a harbor freight store, save the reciepts as many of their hand tools are under a lifetime warranty and you can get instant replacement on their pittsburg brand hand tools. Dennis
