Towing a Bug

I am hopping to get another bug soon. It's free. It has no motor and the only other bug I towed with no motor swayed a little while towing. How much weight can I put in the backseat or behid the back seat to keep it from swaying.

Thanks Steven

Steven,

I would get a transport trailer, ~$45 local from u-haul. total piece of mind, who knows what condition it is in and whether it's solid enough to tow. I am writing this as I remember reading Jim's page on tow story:

Don't risk it.

After reading this story, it reminds me a few escapades myself. I am bit confused on the broken towbar though. How do you break a tow bar? They are pretty solid and straight forward... Maybe the holding pins or hitch?

I have towed my super and ghia many times, and it's pretty simple, but you do need to make sure the tires are good, and that the brakes aren't locked up tight. I had a Dune buggy that would sporatically grab on one side... talk about scary.

If it has been sitting for more than 2-3 years, I would trailer it.

we bought a dead van and the tow company only charged $50 to deliver. It now runs very well.\ good luck and keep 'em alive.

$50? That must've been loooong time ago. I had my car towed literaly

6 blocks, it was close to $100. that was 5 years ago. Then again everything is rediculously expensive around here.

BTW auto transport is a trailer where you put the whole car, not just it's front or rear wheels. it has long ramps in the back, you get the idea...

I've towed some junkers before and one that had locked brakes. But we got them unlocked before we towed it. But didn't have far to tow it. Towed one that was probably sitting for 20 years. I am sure the people I bought it from who biought it from used a trailer. but I had no problems with it. I am just worreid about it beng so light

I need to remember to bring penetrating oil incase nuts and such are hard to get off. And I am bringing at least 5 good tires maybe 6. I just hope my tow bars come in before I want to go get it.

Thanks Steven
