Is it possible to put the ring gear in backwards in a type 2 tranny..about 68-69..? Well must be because this IDIOT had 3 speeds backwards and one foward, another he did same model..trans work..noisy r&p so he stuffed the tranny with speedy dry and gear oil... Howie
However if he had a mid-engined dune buggy, that would be the way to go to get gears in the right direction..

a racer friend's dad (also a racer & race car builder, and a professional car mechanic too) rebuilt a tranny for his race car.. had the rear end of the car facing the garage, when he decided to try a fast launch from the concrete garage floor... yup.. 4 speeds backwards and one forward, a hard launch in 1st gear almost trashed the car AND the garage... LOL
