Waterproofing the bug

Hi RAMVA!

It's been a while since I find a problem on the bug, and it looks like always is a PO's fault. This time is with the floorpans. The PO did a body off resto (70 bug) and replaced both floorpans with new (and pretty good) ones. The problem is, aparently he welded the panels but did not seam sealed it. Here it's been raining for about 10 days and the streets are flooded on some places (about 8 inches deep). Well, last week I had to drive through one of those ponds and the bug filled with water. So, I removed the carpets, the jute padding and everything on the floors and brushed away all the superficial rust and paint (some undercoating too). Then I let everything dry completely and went out to get into the water to see where it is leaking. I can see the water getting in where the body meets the chassis right behind the pedal cluster, a little there on the passenger side and where the floorpans meet the tunnel.

Is there an easy way to block that leak without removing the body? Can I do it myself?

3m makes a eurathane seam sealer in a handy caulk gun cartridge. I believe I got mine at a NAPA store last time I did a pan. Good project for nitrile gloves. Lay a small bead of the seam sealer then smooth it into the seam with your finger. Might as well get two tubes and do all the seams top and bottom.

Dont forget your heater chanels too if you want to go swimming !

The water will get in the drain holes and into the car where the hot air pipes enter and exit the channel under the rear seat and up front at the back of the wheel arch.
