WTB: Old VW / Audi radio

Hello All,

I'm looking for a particular vintage VW radio from the early/mid 1970s. It was the OEM (Maybe optional?) radio in certain models of the Audi 100LS, VW Transporter, and possibly VW Dasher sold here in the USA.

The radio was made by Blaupunkt (of course), but I can't recall if it said Blaupunkt or VW on the faceplate. It had three bands: FM (mono), MW (AM), and LW.

Anybody have one they'd want to sell ?

There's a guy in Germnay with the screen name Fischi on ebay who is alway selling old German car radios. I have bought two from him to date. Reasonable prices BTW.

BTW, LW is Langewelle for Longwave which is the same as our Shortwave. I think this would be around 7 Mhz or 40 meters IIRC. Too bad lots of the shortwave stations from other countries are dissappearing.

Right. The '61 had a Blaupunkt with the long wave band (150-280 khz) that didn't get squat. Europe still has long wave stations, but in the States you won't get anything but airport beacons on LW unless you live on the east coast and have a sensitive receiver with a long (30+ feet) antenna. My '63 Bus didn't have a radio, but my gf did the sweetest thing and went to the junk yard (!) and bought me a radio for it. Along with AM (530-1600 khz), it had the 49 metre (5900-6200 khz) band, but no FM. There is still plenty to tune in on short wave, and on 49m you can get Europe easily after sunset.

Well, I'm out here on the west coast (Portland, Oregon) and may have an upcoming project in Alaska. I am curious if I would be able to pick up any of the Russian LW stations.

I looked for mine, at least I thought I had one, but I could not find it. I did find a strange radio with tape deck and possibly 3 bands (3 large pushbutons), but it is not what you wanted. As I recall, the Porsche 924s of about 1976 or so came with a 3-button radio like this.

Can you email me a picture ?
